Amotz Brandes
Managing Partner

blankMr. Brandes brings his vast TRVA expertise to the table, breaking down Chameleon's process into methods and perspectives that seminar students can use to approach TRVAs in their own professional spheres.

He began his career in an Israeli Defense Forces Special Forces Reconnaissance Unit.  During his military service, he led recon and intelligence-gathering teams on complex operations against terrorist organizations. After military service, he joined El AL Airlines, where his role as profiler was to detect suspicious behaviors and contextual indicators among its passenger population, cargo, and within the airline’s entire operational environment.  Amotz received special advanced training in explosives, concealment methods, cargo profiling, and surveillance detection.

In 2001, Mr. Brandes joined Chameleon Associates, where, following the 9/11 attacks, interest in counterterrorism and aviation security surged. To address this, he established the company's Training and Consulting department and developed programs in security engineering, Predictive Profiling, situational threat assessment, HUMINT, and advanced security management.  Clients for these programs included private companies, law enforcement agencies, government organizations, the military, not-for-profit organizations, and security companies worldwide.

Mr. Brandes has conducted numerous Threat, Risk, and Vulnerability Assessments across all industry sectors, including aviation, manufacturing, schools, mass transit, and museums. He has worked with the Van Gogh and Getty, the Central Bank of Netherlands, Vancouver International Airport, Amtrak Inspector General, Mall of America, Singapore Mass Rapid Transit, Bank of Aruba, Boeing, the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, the L.A. Sheriff, European Commission, Australian Federal Police and many, many more.

He earned his B.A. in International Development Studies from the University of California at Los Angeles.  He is fluent in English and Hebrew.

Mike Prout
Vice President, Global Security

blankMr. Prout joined Crane Currency after leading physical security and investigations as Director of Security for Charter Communications, a Fortune 100 broadband communications company with 400 facilities and 12,000 personnel in his area of responsibility. Prior to joining Charter, Mr. Prout spent 25 years with the U.S. Marshals Service. Mr. Prout served as an Assistant Director of INTERPOL-USNCB coordinating investigations, and held a wide variety of roles with the U.S. Marshals including 9 years as a member of the Senior Executive Service. He was responsible for overseeing security, intelligence and executive protection for the U.S. Court System and also led Internal Investigations and Internal Audit. Over his final 3 years with the agency, Mr. Prout provided leadership of the U.S. Witness Security Program.

Mr. Prout received his MS degree in Management from Johns Hopkins University and his BS degree in Criminal Justice from Marist College.

Berndt Rif
Chief Security Officer

Since 1996, Mr. Rif worked as Head of Security (Academic Medical Center Amsterdam), Security Coordinator (ING Group), and Senior Security Advisor (General Intelligence and Security Agency). Between 2007 - 2018 he worked at the Dutch Central Bank and was involved in the New Era of Security Project (NEOS). The process-based approach to security, developed at that time, has been presented by him to security practitioners and students worldwide at conferences and workshops. After leaving the Dutch Central Bank, he served as the Chief Security Officer and Security Accreditation Authority at the Ministry for Health, Welfare, and Sport from 2019 to 2023. During the coronavirus crisis, he was responsible for the safety of the Minister of Health, Welfare, and Sport. During that period, he led a relatively small young team of security professionals, whom he supervised and coached intensively. Within the ministry, he has initiated a permanent collaboration with the Hague University of Applied Sciences, INHolland University of Applied Sciences, and Saxion University of Applied Sciences, involving the placement of trainees, provision of graduation places, and assignment of tasks to security laboratories.

Starting October 2022, Mr. Rif has been working at the Council for the Judiciary as the National Security Authority Judiciary (National Chief Security Officer). In that role, he is responsible for the security of 11 courts, 4 courts of appeal, two high-risk courts, and services supporting the judiciary. Where possible, he transfers the knowledge he previously acquired about the process-based approach to security to his colleagues. In addition, he gives everyone the space to develop themselves and bring substance to security concepts in their way while continuing to monitor the big picture as a connecting factor. In his role, he remains involved in educational initiatives. Where possible, he assigns internship projects to students and supervises them in practice. Currently, he is also a member of the Professional Field Committee for the Safety and Security Management program at Hogeschool Holland. He serves as a permanent lecturer for the Risk Management Summer Course at TU Delft. He is also involved in the development of a post-HBO threat assessment course. On May 1st, 2024, Mr. Rif started as Chief Security Officer at the Central Judicial Collection Agency (Ministry of Justice and Security). He has also worked for the national police force for over 25 years. Since 2021, he has held the rank of reserve captain.

Peter Hayes
Regional Security Manager - APAC, MENAIP, Central Asia, Europe, RCIS

blankMr. Hayes has over 25 years' experience as a functional head managing security, operational resilience, and business continuity teams. He began his career in the British Army with the Royal Engineers, in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search regiment. He was involved in various campaigns directing chemical maritime couter terrorist activities, convoy escorts and diving operations. In the private sector, he is expert in delivering practical security risk consulting solutions at strategic, tactical, and operational levels for culturally diverse organizations. Currently, he is Regional Security Manager for NOV, a xxx. Previously, as a Group Manager EMEA he was responsible for Security and Emergency Preparedness for BIC Contracting. Prior to that, he was stationed in various locales throughout the Middle East to include Iraq, UAE and Kazakhstan, in various security management roles. Mr. Hayes earned his Bachelor's and Master of Science in Security Management degrees from RSME and Loughborough University, respectively.

 

Jonathan Barkan
Director of EU Operations

blankMr. Barkan has decades of security experience.  He began in the IDF where as a commander, he took part in countless missions and operations. After his honorable discharge, he joined the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) where for 8 years he was in charge of security of several classified facilities, as well as large cross-organization events. He was also responsible for security screening and visitor classification, security personnel training and drills and planning.

He next joined the private sector, holding senior positions in management, sales, and biz dev in the digital marketing industry. He joined Chameleon in 2023 with primary responsibility for supporting our clients in the Netherlands and Europe.

Jonathan earned his BA in History from Tel Aviv University and an MBA in Business Management from Ono College. He is fluent/conversant in Dutch, English, French and Hebrew.

Marco Ferrarini
Security Intelligence Analyst

Mr. Ferrarini began his career as a data analyst, applying his skills to a broad range of disciplines such as cybersecurity, financial markets and geolocation analysis. He then continued to work in analytics, in senior business intelligence positions in the payment industry. He worked on teams for Unilever, AstraZeneca, Microsoft Research and Bayer, among other international companies and research centers. In addition, he has worked on R&D projects for modeling organized crime and terror networks. And he has collaborated on applying machine learning techniques for network anomaly detection.

On a complementary path, he is a certified Italian Krav Maga instructor, as well as Shooting instructor.

Marco joined Chameleon in 2024 as a Security Intelligence Analyst.

He earned a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Leeds. He is fluent in English and Italian.
